Somnath offers an extensive global network of startup evangelists, mentors, investors, service providers and ecosystem players from San Francisco bay area, where he is currently based. He championed a global network spanning over 60 locations and 17 countries while in TiE and then evolved out to further expand his global footprint working with entrepreneurs in both developing and the developed world. Through his own venture SharePract, he works closely with entrepreneurship hubs in Silicon Valley and other emerging regions worldwide. He advises and partners with companies in data management as well as analytics space with deep interest in identifying, funding and promoting scalable ventures.
Other than his role as global director of TiE, he provided the necessary impetus to the incubation process at the entrepreneurship Center of IIM Ahmedabad as its first CEO. Besides IIMA incubator and ISBA networks (Indian Science Park and Business Incubators Association), he was engaged with PAN India organizations like CII, SIDBI and as the head of ELCINA - India’s largest and oldest organization supporting electronics and IT manufacturers. Been advisor to European Commission, worked on global entrepreneurship projects for Kauffman Foundation and USAID. He developed a proprietary SaaS in cloud platform to support ecosystem management by startups, collaboration networks and enterprises.
He was Mentor for the Entrepreneurship curriculum at the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley and associated with the Principles of Invention and Innovation program at Stanford University. He is a post graduate in Economics from JNU, Delhi with training in International Business Strategy from IIFT, IIMA and CBI Netherlands. He is part of the advisory team for the global entrepreneurship network to fund start-ups at Astia, San Francisco. He has been through over 1500 business plan screening and high powered pitch sessions and remains agile in tracking early stage investment opportunities across tech segments particularly IT and data analytics in diverse geographies.
